SPOILERS – READ AT YOUR OWN RISK 🙂
Gongsun Li (GSL)/Li Ji – Main character who bore a son with Jing Ke but is now the Emperor’s concubine.
Emperor/Ying Zheng: Emperor of Qin Kingdom and loves Li Ji
Han Shen: Li Ji’s eldest disciple brother who also has feelings for Li Ji but remains in Qin to protect her with the Emperor’s permission.
Jing Ke: Li Ji’s second oldest
Qing’er: GSL’s servant who is very loyal to her.
Seems like she has successfully gotten Li Si on her side. They decided to set everything up tomorrow which is an opportune time.
GSL realises that her short sword is missing. She asks her servant, Qing’er, whether she has seen it. Qing’er has no clue and GSL explains that she saw it last night next to her bed but it disappeared this morning. Qing’er says that she probably accidentally lost it but GSL is worried that someone stole it. Qing’er jokingly says that no one would be brave to steal her stuff.
Inside a carriage with Lady Min, GSL brings up the matter with Han Fei’s death. With a smiling face, Li Ji bluntly states that this small container was given to Lady Min by Lady Chu (basically she’s stating that Lady Chu has nothing to do with Han Fei’s death while Lady Min is highly suspicious). She relays her suspicions by analysing her investigation through flashbacks. Lady Min does not admit to anything and continues to blame Lady Chu. Li Ji does not back down and continues to corner Lady Min. She tells her that she has not told the Emperor anything yet because “I want to help you”.
GSL then asks, “Lady Min, what was your purpose in coming to Qin?”. She makes a guess and asks whether it was because she wants to help her Emperor from the Zhao Kingdom. Lady Min rejects GSL’s help and unsheathes GSL’s short sword!
Lady Min brings the sword to GSL’s chest saying that she’s too smart and too nosy. GSL asks her when did she steal her sword. Instead of answering, Lady Min shouts out “Help help! Save me!”
Everyone outside hears her cry for help and the Emperor stops the procession. Before they opened the curtain to unveil the scene inside, we hear a knife slashing against something.
The curtain opens and we see Lady Min injured as GSL holds onto her knife. The Emperor asks “What happened?”
Lady Min, looking scared, says that GSL wants to kill her. GSL pleads her innocence but that’s not how it looks like to everyone.
Back in the palace, the Emperor holds a session with all those involved. GSL kneels in front of the Emperor as Lady Min and a physician walk inside. The physician reports to the Emperor of Lady Min’s health saying that she is not badly injured and will heal soon. The Emperor then questions GSL about her sword. GSL admits that the sword is hers but she never used the sword to hurt Lady Min. From her flashback, we see that Lady Min purposely injured herself to frame GSL. Lady Min tries to act innocent but GSL begins to accuse Lady Min of the deaths of Han Fei and Han Zhangshi.
Lady Min refutes all this by saying that she was with GSL at the time of their deaths. GSL then continues to relay her investigation process and says that all clues points to Lady Min. GSL admits that she does not have any concrete evidence to back up her claims but she’s not lying.
However, Lady Min is smart as she has already prepared evidence against GSL. She brings up the matter with the Crown Prince of Yan which is touchy subject for the Emperor. Li Si even comes into the scene to implicate Li Ji further. He says that GSL is harming the Qin Kingdom as she has other motives. The Emperor orders Li Si to explain further. He continues on with his explanation and even brings up GSL’s second eldest disciple brother who is Jing Ke. Of course this is to bring discord between the Emperor and GSL as he knows Jing Ke was her first love.
The Emperor then orders everyone to leave the room except GSL.
He questions her in private to ask whether what Li Si said was true. She admits that it was true but that she did not know Jing Ke was going to be there. She says that she was only there to help the Crown Prince of Yan escape back to his mother land. However he does not listen as he’s blinded by jealousy, “To help the Crown Prince escape is just an excuse.”. He asserts that she was only there to see the person she wanted to see most which is Jing Ke. She tells him that she’s willing to be punished for not being truthful.
Oh my heart is breaking at this scene as he says, “From then to now, you never loved me”. 😭😭
GSL tells him that he’s wrong and that she was only there for the Crown Prince. She tells him that her feelings for the Emperor is real but he wouldn’t listen. She tries to hold onto him but he flings her away, “I won’t trust you again”. He leaves the scene while GSL exclaims, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry”.
Next, we see the Emperor madly instructing Li Zhong to escort GSL out and to restrain the Crown Prince of Yan’s people. We then see them being restrained with swords being pointed at their throats.
Next we see Han Shen with Jing Ke. Jing Ke asks Han Shen about his true purpose for coming here, he suspects he is here on behalf of the Emperor. Han Shen replies that he is not here for the Crown Prince of Yan and that the less people know of his true purpose, the better. Jing Ke says that he trusts him.
However, General Fang does not assert the same trust. He tries to persuade the Crown Prince of Yan to not trust him by saying that Han Shen has another purpose for coming here.
Back to Jing Ke and Han Shen, they continue their chat. While drinking their tea, Jing Ke notices a suspicious person and flicks his cup towards him. Then more assassins arrive attempting to harm both Jing Ke and Han Shen. This alarms General Fang and the Crown who goes out of their room to see the situation. The assassins quickly flee as they are outnumbered but are being chased by Jing Ke and Han Shen.
The Crown Prince looks anxious, “Did the Emperor find us already?” General Fang takes this opportunity to say that this occurred as soon as Han Shen arrived – gosh he just can’t trust anyone!
Soon we see Han Shen and Jing Ke running after the assassins. Although the assassins split up, all but two get killed by Han Shen and Jing Ke. The chase continues for the last remaining assassin.
Meanwhile, GSL is getting punished harshly by Li Si in prison. Li Si tells GSL that this is his revenge for what she did to him. He then asks her about her purpose of helping the Crown Prince of Yan escape Qin. Obviously Li Si does not like her innocent reply and orders the guard to continue to strike her until she says something he can use against her. I can’t believe the Emperor is allowing her to be punished like this!!!
Back to the Crown Prince of Yan, he asks his people why Jing Ke still hasn’t arrived yet. Tian Guang stands up saying that he will go out and have a look. However, he gets knocked unconscious by someone they don’t know (I forgot his name). General Fang believes that he was sent by the Qin Emperor and attempts to attack him. However, he also gets knocked unconscious. The old man then goes up to the Crown Prince and tells him that he will take him back to Qin before knocking him unconscious as well.
We go back to the Qin Kingdom and see the Emperor rushing towards GSL. He asks Li Si for a status report of her confession. Li Si replies to him that it has been unsatisfactory so far. The Emperor orders him to continue. OMG SO HARSH! And here I thought he would slap Li Si for hurting GSL. Li Si grabs the rope and personally hits GSL while the Emperor’s back is turned. GSL tells them that she told them before and she will tell them again, “The Crown Prince did not give me any benefits, it was my own decision”.
So he doesn’t have the balls to watch her in pain yet orders his servants to inflict them?! What kind of person are you! Don’t do this to her! Even his flashbacks are pissing me off – can’t you see that she loves you now? Don’t just remember the past memories and forget your recent happiness!
Back to Jing Ke and Han Shen. They caught up with the last assassin but failed to capture him. They realised that they fell in a trap after seeing a mask on the wall. They quickly hurry back to their hideout and found Tian Guang and General Fan lying unconsciously on the floor. General Fang soon regains conscious and tells them that the Crown Prince got taken away. Seeing Han Shen, he quickly accuses him saying that it was his fault. Jing Ke calms him down and says that they need to rest if they want to save the Crown Prince.
Then we see Lady Min being fed medicine as the Emperor arrives to see her. She’s so sly and pretends to be concerned about GSL. The Emperor expresses his shock at GSL’s actions as he never thought she would do something like this. He asks her for advice on what to do with the Crown Prince of Yan. Lady Min puts her thought out while the Emperor listens on calmly. He then asks her, “If my army retreats, will you be happy?” – oooh!
