Weiyang: Previously Xin’er but takes on Weiyang’s identity to exact her revenge
Tuo Ba Jun (TBJ): Bright & compassionate man who doesn’t care about royal politics and is the Emperor’s favorite grandson. Currently likes Weiyang
Tuo Ba Yu (TBY): TBJ’s uncle. He’s cold and ruthless but I think he’s slowly liking Weiyang.
Changle: Weiyang’s oldest sister who hates Weiyang because she thinks she stole TBJ from her.
Changru: Weiyang’s younger sister who’s in love with TBY.
Li Mingde (LMD): Weiyang’s 2nd brother who has some feelings for Weiyang.
Bai Zhi: Weiyang’s loyal servant
Jun Tao: Weiyang’s bodyguard & the one who knows her true identity
Chun Ming: Da Furen’s arrogant maid – hate her so much!
Chiyun Nan (CYN): Great General who framed the Hexi King. Also Da Furen’s nephew.
Beginning from where we left off in ep 21, we see Da Furen be confronted with an assassin (LMD) but immediately Da Furen’s own assassin (whom she hired to frame Weiyang in previous eps) fight with LMD. LMD successfully escapes before the guards arrive. The next morning, Weiyang personally brings over some birds nest soup she made herself for LMD. She then subtly hints that it might’ve been LMD who caused unrest at Da Furen’s place. LMD straightaway affirms her suspicioun, saying that he needs to avenge his mother’s death. Weiyang then says that his mother wouldn’t have wanted LMD to go on this road of revenge but he says that he needs to do it in order to be able to protect his loved ones. Meanwhile, we see Da Furen waking up as her assassin (Hong Luo) comes in to check on her. As Da Furen asks how did Hong Luo come to save her, Hong Luo replies that her nephew (Chiyun Nan – he framed the Hexi King) ordered her to protect Da Furen nearby after hearing her recent situation. Da Furen becomes ecstatic that her nephew is soon to be back, “If he’s here, I won’t have to be worried anymore”.Afterwards we see Juntao telling Weiyang Da Furen’s lineage and her family members, as well as their relationship with the royals. Weiyang then exclaims that in order to beat the Chiyun family, she must find out their weakness. Then Baizhi comes in to report to Weiyang that Old Granny Chiyun has arrived, so Weiyang goes to greet her maternal grandma.Granny Chiyun’s first appearance here is so snobbish. Immediately, we see her dislike for Weiyang as she just let Weiyang kneel on the ground without giving her permission to get up. Granny Chiyun then orders them to bring her to Da Furen, her beloved daughter. As soon as the mother-daughter reunite, Da Furen sobs and cries at the sight of her mother. She begs her mother for her help which Granny Chiyun tells her to wait for her nephew, Chiyun Nan, who will organise everything. Granny Chiyun then proceeds to wipe her daughter’s tears before saying “The Chiyun family will definitely be your backing”.Meanwhile, we see Changle throwing her food away, “they dare feed me such disgusting foods”, and asking her maid to bring her better dishes. Another servant comes in saying “Don’t forget that this is the countryside, not the Li’s manor”. Again, Changle throws another sulky tantrum but gets teached greatly.Afterwards, we see Granny Chiyun saying that she will bring her daughter home since she’s so sick. Granny Li refuses, “This is not appropriate, she is the Li’s daughter-in-law”. However, Granny Chiyun doesn’t budge, “I am going to bring her home”. Then, Weiyang’s father comes along saying that she can bring Da Furen back to her maternal home. When they’re later alone, the father explains to Granny Li that he allowed Da Furen to go back home since the doctor said that she doesn’t have long to live. While this was all happening, we see Lady Wen look gleefully ecstatic at the situation.Back at her maternal home, Da Furen gets treated by a physician who says that she’s not getting better and that he is unable to do anything. Granny Chiyun becomes sad at the news and says that she will do anything she requests. Da Furen then says that she has 2 matters she needs her mother’s help with: she won’t die until Changle gets married and that she wants Weiyang’s death.Meanwhile, Changle gets ordered to clean up manures and gets locked up until she completes her task. Changle being Changle cries and complains, “I can’t deal with this anymore, I want to go back home!”. But since she’s locked up until she gets the job done, we see her working while crying at herself pitifully.Later, we see TBY and TBJ walking along the streets who then spotted Weiyang as well. Then a crowd of people running away from soldiers comes along knocking into people. TBJ then quickly saves Weiyang from being hit by a pole before asking the soldiers about the situation. However, we note that Weiyang and Juntao recognised one of the men the soldiers captured as Juntao’s father. Back at her home, Juntao tells Weiyang that she must save her father. Weiyang stops her and tells her to think rationally as it will be impossible to save him from the army of soldiers. She then says that impulse actions will lead to failure. Weiyang then tells Juntao of her plan to save her father.Meanwhile, we see the captured prisoners being surrounded by soldiers as TBY and his older brother look on. Then the soldiers begin to throw dirt at them, looks they they’re going to bury their alive. The prisoners hold each other’s hands and we see Juntao with Weiyang sneakily coming into the scene. TBJ later comes and orders everyone to stop, “These are people’s lives, you can’t just kill them”.Then Juntao cuts loose a string which released a post to the ground. Using this distraction, the prisoners fight back and soon gained the upper hand by holding the older prince as hostage. TBJ then requests them to use him as hostage instead of his older uncle. The switch was successful but his uncles doesn’t seem to want to save his life as they still haven’t allowed the prisoners to escape freely. Then we see TBY surprised at seeing Weiyang here but doesn’t do anything since it looks like she has a plan to save TBJ.We see Juntao, disguised as a soldier, come into the older prince’s tent, eavesdropping on their conversation. She hears of their evil plan but quickly leaves before she gets discovered.Weiyang then comes in saying that she’s here to see TBJ who’s been told that she’s here. The older prince, thinking that he can use her, immediately instructs his soldiers to bring her to him. Weiyang smiles, since it’s going to plan.Meanwhile, we see TBJ in the middle of the prisoners who are asking him whether they can escape with him as hostage. Then Weiyang comes in and immediately gets grabbed by the soldiers. Juntao’s dad was in shock as he recognises her as his Princess. TBJ quickly goes and defeats the prisoners who were grabbing Weiyang and protects her from them. Juntao’s dad then asks him why did he agree to become their hostage.
TBJ: “I want to protect everyone’s lives.” He then says that he will ask his Emperor to make sure that no one will be discriminated, etc.
Then we see a sweet scene as Weiyang tends to TBJ’s wounds who starts speaking quickly, “If you missed me, why did you come to such a dangerous place to see me? If only you just say a sentence, I would’ve come to see you”.
Ep 23: The older prince gives permission to free the prisoners as TBJ relays his requests. The prisoners shout in glee, “We’re free!!!!”. Then TBJ and Weiyang converse. He asks Weiyang whether she actually missed him which made her flustered and told him that he misunderstood lol. We can see that TBJ is quite happy to see Weiyang and to hear her excuses. He even fakes pain when she asks “How is your wound”. As she tries to look at his wound in closer detail, TBJ lightly pecks her on her cheek which was so ADORABLE!!!! Then he walks away before coming back to her closely saying that women’s heart is always different to what they say and that he wouldn’t believe what she says in the future. And, he kissed her again!!!!
Then Weiyang sees TBY as she walks back to the camp. He tries to probe more information from her about her purpose and secret but she doesn’t reveal anything. He then asks about marriage and whether she can actually be suited to be TBJ’s wife, but Weiyang just says that she won’t be used by TBY in his plans. She then threatens his reputation by requesting him not to bring up her marriage to her father as she will not want to marry him.Meanwhile, we see the prisoners rejoice in their new freedom as they can finally return home. However, after taking a few steps away, they were suddenly shot by arrows and mercilessly killed. Juntao tries to save her father who’s then chased by CYN’s men (Da Furen’s nephew). TBJ and Weiyang then ran into the scene as they see the dead bodies of the prisoners. TBJ shouts at CYN asking him why did he kill them. CYN just makes up an excuse saying that he thought they were guilty. Weiyang, however, is bubbling with anger at seeing her father’s killer. Then CYN arrives home and immediately goes and see Da Furen, who’s lying in bed sick. Da Furen then blames Weiyang for her ill health, her son’s death and Changle’s situation. CYN then says that he thinks of Da Furen as his mother and that he will take revenge for them.Meanwhile we see Juntao and Weiyang talking about CYN’s arrival and how Weiyang still needs to avenge her father. Then Juntao’s father arrive and apologises for not protecting Weiyang. Weiyang says that he doesn’t need to feel sorry since they’re all alive. The father then explains how he was still alive and expresses his need for revenge. He then tells Weiyang how he discovered CYN’s ambitions and tells her how he plans to make his own private army and weapons. Weiyang then realises that he plans to rebel against the Emperor. The dad then leaves but not before telling his daughter to protect Weiyang. Then we see Weiyang thinking that if CYN is rebelling against the throne and it was just his plan to frame the Hexi King, then TBJ is not her enemey (and she can be with him without feeling guilty).Afterwards, TBY’s servant tells him how they’ve been tailing Juntao’s dad and saw him meeting with Weiyang but couldn’t eavesdrop. TBY then instructs them to find out his real identity as this matter is getting suspicious, especially with Weiyang involved. Meanwhile, we still see Changle cleaning up manure. Another servant comes in saying “You’re still not finished?! If you’re not finished before it gets dark, then you won’t be allowed to eat nor rest”. I kind of feel sorry for her as her lips are dry and cracked, face is dirty and it looks like she lost hope. Also, she gets scolded for trying to drink water. After finishing her chores, Changle was offered water by a servant. After drinking it, she was then told that the water she drank was what the servant used to wash her feet. EWWWWW. However, it looks like Changle hasn’t regretted her past actions as she still believes that she doesn’t deserve living like this. The next day, Changle and her servant were tasked with looking after the horses. After finishing their task, another servant comes in and tells them to do more her chores and bullies them to do her bidding. Instead of complaining as usual, Changle has a change of attitude and follows the servant’s bidding. – I think Changle is up to something.Soon we see the servants, including Changle, all lined up listening to the head of servants. The Autumn Harvest is coming up so there are a lot of chores for them to do. Suddenly another servant comes in saying that the 100 year old wine is missing which shocks the head servant. Apparently the wine is to be given to the Emperor and now that it is missing, they will be in trouble. Looks like it’s Changle’s doing after all as she ‘confesses’ that she stole it because she was forced by the other servant (who made her drink the dirty water). Changle then adds fuel to the fire by saying that she was threatened by that servant that if she doesn’t do her bidding, Changle would be starved. The servants then searched that servant’s room and finds the wine hidden under the bed compartment. That servant then gets punished but not before slapping Changle.Meanwhile, Da Furen is still sick in bed. Granny Chiyun consoles her daughter saying that she will think of a plan to bring Changle back home. Da Furen then asks her mother to help her for one more matter, saying that if this matter is solved then she can die without regret. Then we see that servant getting hit on her back as Changle smirks at the sight. After her punishment, Changle goes up to that servant and tells her that she did frame her before returning her a slap in the face. She then threatens the servant with her life if she ever messes with Changle again. Then CYN arrives and Changle quickly goes to greet her cousin. He tells her that he’s bringing her back home and that since he’s here, no one will dare to mess with her. Afterwards, we see a tearful reunion between Changle and her mother. Da Furen then brings up the matter on how they got to this dire state. Changle then says that it’s all because of Li Weiyang who harmed them. Da Furen then tells Changle that she must let everyone know that she’s someone useful, in order to gain support. Looks like their revenge is starting.Meanwhile, Changru gets furious when she heard that Changle has returned. The servant then blabs that since Changle has returned so quickly with the help of CYN, she will be the main star again.
Thoughts: I love how we get to see a bit more interaction between the main leads. The light pecks are definitely worth the wait! But drama will continue between Weiyang the the Chiyun household since Changle is back in town. I wonder when Da Furen will die because she’s just inciting hate and revenge in Changle. But boy am I glad to see a good reunion between Juntao and her father, Weiyang has more supporters now!!! YAY!
